The Daily Grind
A coworker asked me to make him a sign for the coffee station at his other job. He told me they called the coffee cart The Daily Grind as an inside joke, so he wanted that to be the text for the sign. We decided to use some nice Melamine veneer MDF core material as the substrate. This is a great material for making signs for a couple of reasons; one it creates a nice visual contrast between the colors of the veneer and the inside core. Second if you wanted to add even greater visual contrast you can paint the recessed etched areas a different color and then, because the Melamine is so slick, you can wipe the excess paint of the top surface to create a nice crisp inlaid color. In this case we decided to keep the natural color of the etched MDF exposed because it was similar to the warm natural tone of coffee beans. |
